Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal, BSP, ndc, psc joined Bangladesh Navy in January 1981 and was commissioned in June 1983 in Executive Branch. He is a navigation specialist officer.
Rear Admiral Khaled successfully completed the course of Cadet, Midshipman and Sub- Lieutenant in the duration of 4 years from Italian Naval Academy in the year 1981-1985. He is also a distinguished graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Bangladesh and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India. He is also a proud alumni of the National Defense College, Delhi, India in 2013.
Recipient of Distinguished Service Medal (BSP), Rear Admiral Khaled has a blend of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in his career. He has commanded almost all types of warships of Bangladesh Navy including a Guided Missile Frigate BNS BANGABANDHU. Having completed 15 years of glorious sea service, the Admiral twice brought warship for Bangladesh Navy from UK and successfully sailed on homebound voyage. He was a Directing Staff in Defence Services Command and Staff College and also held the prestigious post of Commandant Bangladesh Naval Academy. He served in the Naval Headquarters as Director Naval Training and Director Personnel Services. He held the important appointment of Director General Civil Military Relations in Armed Forces Division, Prime Minister’s Office. It is mentionable that the Admiral served for world peace as UN Military Observer in Ivory Coast with a sizeable experience in the field of arms embargo inspection, monitoring zone of confidence, enforcement of UN Resolution, observing electoral process, etc.
Rear Admiral Khaled attended Maritime Law Enforcement Course in Wollongong University, Australia. He holds Masters in Defence Studies from National University Bangladesh and Masters in Defence and Strategic Studies from University of Madras, India. The Admiral has also recently completed M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from University of Madras. While sea going Commander by heart, the Admiral has passion for research works, strategic and military studies. The topic of his dissertation in Masters program was, “Formulating an Ocean Policy for Bangladesh” and in his MPhil the dissertation topic was “Strategic Rebalance of USA in Asia Pacific: Options for Bangladesh’’.
Before joining his present appointment as the 2nd Vice–Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh the Admiral held the prestigious appointment of Chairman Chittagong Port Authority when he gathered in-depth experience and knowledge on Port Operation and Shipping Sector. In his Personal life Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal is married and blessed with two daughters.
