The Department of Maritime Law and Policy started its journey from the very inception of this University under the Faculty of Maritime Governance and Policy. The Department is committed to provide an excellent teaching and learning environment. Global standard curriculums are followed to qualified and competent teachers. LLM Maritime Law Programme, a specialized post graduate programme, is conducted presently by this department. In parallel to this LLM programme the department is conducting LLB (Hon’s) in Maritime Law and the certificate courses in different contemporary disciplines on Maritime field.

LLM Maritime Law programme

LLM Maritime Law programme is a specialized post-graduate programme conducted by the Department of Maritime Law and Policy under the Faculty of Maritime Governance & Policy (FMGP). The main purpose of this programme is to develop human resources with expertise in the field of Maritime Law by imparting theory cum practically focused legal education of global standard. It is an 18-month full-time professional post-graduate programme which is equally divided into 3 (Three) semesters each semester being of 06 months duration. Total Credit of this programme is 54. Besides regular courses, moot court, workshop, seminar, guest lectures on contemporary issues are arranged frequently for the students. The programme also includes field trip / study tour (home & abroad) and seminar.

Career Prospects

  1. Lawyer in the admiralty court and marine court.
  2. Law officer and legal adviser of port, shipping and shipbuilding industries such as shipping liners, sea ports, container depot / terminals, shipbuilding organizations, logistics company, freight forwarding agencies and various maritime organizations at home and abroad.
  3. Academic career in university and maritime institutions at home & abroad ;
  4. Exclusive opportunity to build research career in maritime field; and
  5. Govt. organization including bank and insurance companies.

 

LLB (Honours) in Maritime Law

LLB (Honours) in Maritime Law programme is a 4 year full-time regular undergraduate programme. Graduates from this programme will be able to develop their career as Lawyers especially in maritime sector including Judges of admiralty and Marine Courts, legal advisors, academicians etc in the relevant discipline. The programme is divided into 8 semesters of six months each (2 semesters in each year). Total credit-hour of this programme is 141 including 6 credit hours for thesis/internship. Besides regular courses, workshops, seminars, guest lectures and certificate courses on contemporary issues are arranged frequently for the students. The duration of each semester is 26 weeks.
