About: Obtained BSc (Hons) and completed MSc in Geology Dhaka University in 1972; obtained BSc (Hons) MSc in Applied Geophysics Indian School of Mines India in 1974. Awarded PhD in Geodynamics by the Department of Applied Geophysics of Indian School of Mines India in 1992. Retired as Professor of Geology and Geophysics from Dhaka University Bangladesh in 2017. Working as Professor and Head of Oceanography and Hydrography with the BSMR Maritime University Dhaka since 2018, Worked as Lecturer in Sulaimania University Iraq from 1977 to 1982, as Associate Professor in Rajshahi University Bangladesh from 1983 to 1994, and as Professor in Dhaka University Bangladesh from 1995 to 2017. Worked as Visiting Professor in the University of Mayala Malaysia from 2012 to 2015. In addition, served Dhaka University in 1974–1975 session, Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (ARCO) from 1975 to 1977, and SAARC Disaster Management Centre, New Delhi India in the year 2009. He has more than 70 research publications in national and international peer reviewed journals such as Tectonophysics, Journal of Geodynamics, Natural Hazards, Environmental Hazards, Geoscience Frontiers, Geol Soc India, Acta Geologica Sinica, Environmental Geology, Applied Geochemistry, Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. Written more than 50 conference papers and good number of project reports. Recipients of Indian Government Post Graduate scholarship in 1972, ‘Best Paper Award’ from the Indian Geological Congress in 2013, ‘Dean’s Award’ from Dhaka University in 2016, IJRULA International Research Award 2020 of innovative researcher in 2019 for the excellence in “Why would sea level rise for global warming and polar ice melt?” and Writer’s Honor of University Grants Commission Bangladesh. Writer of three books, one monograph and one manual. Supervised PhD, MPhil and MS thesis. Professor Khan has performed extensive geological field work in the Zagros Orogenic Belt in Iraq, Alborz Orogenic Belt in North Iran, Himalayan Orogenic Belt in India–Nepal, Folded belt of Bangladesh, Sunda plate of Malaysia and Borneo. Conducted 20 research projects supported by UNDP, UNICEF, DPHE, UGC, SIDA, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Columbia University and Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology, Govt. of Bangladesh. His present research focuses on climate change, sea level change and geoenvironmental hazards in addition to geological oceanography.
