About: Dr Md Saiful Islam is an Assistant Professor and the Head of Department (HOD) of Maritime Tourism and Hospitality Management at Bangladesh Maritime University. Dr Saiful received his PhD in Tourism from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. His PhD research focused on developing and implementing a tourism sustainability indicator system for an indigenous community that the community can operate independently. Saiful did his Bachelor and Master studies in Tourism at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Before joining Bangladesh Maritime University, he worked as a Lecturer of Tourism at Primeasia University, Bangladesh from 2014 to 2021. Besides, he worked in research and consultancy projects for different international development and conservation organizations including IUCN, ILO, ICIMOD, OIC and Turkish Development Bank – all in tourism and development sectors in rural Bangladesh. Also, he did consultancy for Bangladesh Tourism Board, Cox’s Bazar Development Authority (CoxDA), Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
