We Strive For Maritime Excellence
Bangladesh is the largest delta of the world. Its rivers and floodplains, which make up 80% of the country, support life, livelihoods and the economy. Bangladesh is a rapidly developing country, envisaging to be a middle-income country in 2021. The country faces major inter-related delta challenges in water safety, food security and socio-economic development and is prone to natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, and droughts. There is already high pressure on the available land and water resources in the delta. In order to materialize this plan, the only specialized public maritime university BSMRMU has introduced the Department of Harbour and River Engineering for the first time in Bangladesh. The department has the potential to implement Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 successfully. The department will help the nation to meet the engineering needs of the maritime and coastal industries by providing specialized knowledge pertinent to these industries.
The department will conduct both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Harbour and River Engineering. The department has been offering an MSc program in Coastal and River Engineering (CRE) since 2021.
